About The Customer
Swisscom is Switzerland’s leading telecom provider, headquartered in Ittigen, near the capital city of Berne. With over 20,000 employees, the company generated a turnover of CHF 5.7 billion in the first half of 2014. Swisscom is known for its commitment to sustainability and innovation, making it one of the most sustainable companies in Switzerland and Europe. The company has a strong presence in the telecommunications market, offering a wide range of services, including IPTV, to its customers. Swisscom's dedication to providing high-quality services and its focus on customer satisfaction have made it a prominent player in the industry.
The Challenge
Swisscom, a leading telecom provider in Switzerland, faced the challenge of upgrading its existing IPTV service to meet the growing demands of its customers. The company needed to enhance the user experience, provide more content, and support multi-screen viewing. Additionally, Swisscom aimed to reduce costs and time-to-market by leveraging an Android-based platform for its new service, Swisscom TV 2.0. The challenge also included ensuring robust content protection and seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
The Solution
Swisscom introduced Swisscom TV 2.0, a next-generation IPTV service built on an Android-based platform. The new service features a multi-device middleware, allowing seamless integration with set-top boxes and other devices. The set-top boxes are customized tablets with security hardening, supporting multicast UDP streams and adaptive bitrate streaming. Swisscom collaborated with Verimatrix to implement the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV, ensuring robust content protection. The service also includes a network DVR, allowing users to record multiple channels simultaneously and watch time-shifted content. The user interface was upgraded to be more visual and intuitive, enhancing the overall user experience.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application.
