Giving Pediatric Patients A Lot of Extra TLC
Like all medical facilities, Nemours Children’s Hospital continuously monitors patients’ vital signs. But patient health can’t always be assessed by clinical data alone. Seeing the minute changes in a patient’s color or noting increased restlessness can be a sign of escalating problems. Since it would be impossible for medical staff to be in every patient’s room simultaneously, the hospital wanted to install video cameras in each room so that paramedics remotely monitoring patient vitals could also visually see if the child was in distress and call for immediate medical attention.

Enhancing Public Safety with IoT: A Case Study of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik's Security System Upgrade
Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL), Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company, was faced with the challenge of updating its existing security camera system. The company aimed to maintain a high level of safety and security for passengers and staff, combat crime such as theft, robbery, and vandalism, and support its staff in daily operations and emergency response operations. SL also wanted to ensure that it had a good video surveillance system which was able to provide good image material to investigate accidents, perform better analyses for accident prevention and better assist the police with images for criminal investigations. The challenge was further compounded by the complicated light conditions, exposure to tampering, dirt, vibrations, and extreme temperature variations, and the need for the cameras to be easy to clean, withstand a high-pressure washer, and be easy to control and manage centrally.

Enhancing Safety in Mining Operations through IoT
Surface mining in the North Bohemian brown coal basin presented a unique challenge due to the presence of unexploded Nazi ammunition from the second World War. The control cabin of the K10000/K74 mining machine was located dangerously close to the excavator, posing a risk of potential explosions that could endanger the operator’s life and health. The mission was to move the controls to a safer location within the mining machine and use a camera system to provide the operator with the same view as from the original cabin. This nonstandard requirement posed a significant challenge for the integrator, as it had to devise a unique custom-made solution without compromising the mining machine’s functions or possibilities.
