The Customer

Worldwide Manufacturing & Industrial Machinery Company

About The Customer
The customer is a leading manufacturing and industrial machinery company that develops innovative equipment and machinery for electrical power generation. The company empowers its customers by maximizing availability, reliability, and value throughout an equipment's life cycle. To meet evolving business needs and deliver advanced data-driven solutions, the company sought to modernize its data architecture. The company's goal was to transform its data infrastructure to a more agile, scalable, and sustainable platform that could unite data sources, management, and analytics tools. The company's modernization effort was aimed at powering compelling business insights and driving continued growth.
The Challenge
A leading manufacturing and industrial machinery company, known for developing innovative equipment and machinery for electrical power generation, was seeking to modernize its data architecture to meet evolving business needs and deliver advanced data-driven solutions. The company's existing data platform was based on an on-premises Oracle data warehouse and Informatica ETL environment, which was not able to deliver data products at the speed, scale, and sustainability required by the business. The goal was to transform the data infrastructure to the Snowflake Data Cloud, Matillion ELT and the Qlik Replicate Data Integration Platform—all hosted on AWS. The modernized architecture would deliver an extensible technology stack that unites data sources, management and analytics tools for greater agility, scale and sustainability.
The Solution
With the help of NTT DATA Cloud Transformation services, the company embarked on a cloud transformation journey. The process began with identifying the shared goals of multiple stakeholders and designing a roadmap to connect the dots from strategy to execution. The roadmap encompassed several phases including discovery, design, development, and delivery. NTT DATA migrated the company's on-premises Oracle data warehouse to the Snowflake Data Cloud, which provides on-demand scale and performance to load data instantly and simultaneously run multiple workloads on that data. The migration team chose a combination of Matillion and Qlik Replicate to replace the on-premises Informatica ETL environment. Matillion is architected for the cloud and natively integrates with Snowflake, while Qlik Replicate provides synchronization with several on-premises data sources, including Oracle and SQL Server. The combination of these integration solutions enables the company to operationalize data efficiently and accelerate business value.
Operational Impact
  • The cloud transformation has significantly improved and simplified the company's data management processes. It has reduced data load times and data latency, thereby enabling the company to deliver data products faster and more efficiently. The transformation has also broadened the scope of the cloud-based data sources while cost-effectively providing on-demand scale and performance for data warehousing. As a result of its modernization effort, the company now has an agile, sustainable cloud data platform that can power compelling business insights and drive continued growth. The company's modernized data architecture is now better aligned with its business needs and is more capable of responding to evolving business requirements.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Migrated 3,000 Oracle tables
  • Integrated 42 data sources
  • Migrated 4,002 Informatica and Alteryx mappings
