Elysian Blockchain is a consortium-based initiative founded to bring the foundational benefits of distributed ledger technology to healthcare data. The team at Elysian has decades of combined healthcare expertise and sees blockchain as the perfect solution for making interoperability in healthcare a reality. Elysian is initially focusing on ePrescription files, with plans to extend the solution to other forms of healthcare data in the future. The company is committed to ensuring that healthcare data, like other data in patients' lives, is fluid and that providers have access to complete patient records to make informed decisions on care.
The healthcare industry is facing a significant challenge in terms of interoperability. With the introduction of federal legislation promoting the adoption of electronic health records, software vendors rushed to provide solutions. However, these solutions often maintain data in silos, without a common approach for coordination with other solutions. Electronic health data exists in standardized file formats that can transmit various types of medical information, but without interoperability, the benefit of this data is greatly diminished. The lack of interoperability makes it difficult to move files from one place to another in a manner that is useful or meaningful. Traditional solutions, such as enterprise integration platforms, have attempted to address this issue, but they often leave data locked inside siloed systems within each participating organization. This approach also struggles to keep data in sync and maintain a single source of truth with a proven audit trail.
Elysian Blockchain is leveraging blockchain technology to address the interoperability challenge in healthcare. Blockchain provides a globally trusted layer that can protect data no matter where it exists, without compromising the privacy of the data. When organizations build a shared ledger using blockchain, they can be assured that the data recorded on-chain are not manipulated either with malicious intent or by accident. Elysian is building a blockchain-based solution with ePrescriptions, using Kaleido to build a permissioned blockchain network that will transcend legacy networks of healthcare data. The end goal for Elysian is to have the right data, at the right place, for the right patient. Elysian seeks to liberate healthcare data that is siloed in electronic health records (EHR) and health information exchanges (HIE). With blockchain technology, there is the potential to free this data, promote interoperability, and affect clinical outcomes.
