About The Customer
Badan POM is the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority that regulates the country's registration and distribution of drugs, food, cosmetics, and health supplements. The authority has a significant role in ensuring the safety and quality of these products in the country. It has large data storage requirements due to the vast amount of data it handles. The authority was using a legacy system that was causing slow system performance and inadequate data protection. This was affecting its operations and customer service, and putting its data and business at risk.
The Challenge
Badan POM, the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority, was facing significant challenges with its legacy system. The authority, which regulates the country's registration and distribution of drugs, food, cosmetics, and health supplements, had large data storage requirements. The legacy system was causing slow system performance, leading to longer lead times needed to process license applications. This inefficiency was not only affecting the authority's operations but also its customer service. Additionally, the lack of adequate data protection was putting the authority's data and business at risk. The challenge was to improve the slow application performance and increase data protection.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Badan POM consolidated its data on two Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G600 (VSP G600) systems, using Brocade 16GB/s Fibre Channel for SAN networking. This high-performance storage solution helped to improve the system's performance. To enhance data protection, Badan POM implemented Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR). HUR provides fast and efficient replication of small or large data volumes and can manage tight recovery point objective (RPO) times. It also supports asynchronous replication across multiple data centers. This solution not only improved data protection but also helped to prevent loss or duplication of data. Furthermore, it enabled Badan POM to consolidate and create a single disaster recovery (DR) solution.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Hitachi's storage and data protection solutions had a significant impact on Badan POM's operations. By consolidating data onto the Hitachi VSP G600 systems, the authority was able to simplify its data management requirements. The solution also improved the system's performance, enabling the authority to respond much more quickly to applications for licenses. This enhanced efficiencies and improved customer service. Furthermore, with the implementation of Hitachi Universal Replicator, the authority was able to improve its data protection and disaster recovery capabilities. This helped to prevent loss or duplication of data and reduced the risk to the business.
